History
Sunrise Elementary School was built to relieve crowding in north Bismarck schools, mainly at Northridge and Rita Murphy Elementary Schools. A community contest was held to name the school and the School Board chose Sunrise because was the most popular choice due to the school's location on the east side of the city and the location in the Sunrise subdivision. It opened in August 2010 with 463 students enrolled.
Each year the student population has grown as more homes were constructed in the subdivision surrounding the school. An addition consisting of four classrooms was added to the building in the summer of 2013. With the realignment of the attendance areas for the 2013-14 school years, the student population increased to 588 during the 2013-14 school year. On the first day of the 2016-17 school year, we had 640 students enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 5.
